Update

I took a drumming music therapy class last week. Now I hear rhythms everywhere I go. As I wait in an elevator, my fingers tap out the beats of someone's cough and another person's jiggling keys. I LOVE IT! To get credit for this course, I need to participate in a drum circle. I am not sure what this will be like but I am excited to try it out. More to come soon!

Currently I am disappointed in our state of affairs. I read a quote recently that resonated with me: "You cannot bring democracy to a country by attacking it!" - Akbar Ganji

How do I keep from feeling helpless sometimes? How can we create change? Isn't this nation created by the people and for the people?

Today, I, for my part, watched Dave Chappelle's movie "Block Party." This made me feel somewhat better. Perhaps change in small ways is affective and all is not lost as long as people are willing to learn. If Dave Chappelle can get four old white women from Ohio to take a long bus ride to see rap stars of whom they've never heard, anything is possible. I guess that's why I want to be a counselor- to feel that I am making a difference in a small way. My journey to make a difference will just not have as good of a sound track as Dave's ;)

Laura, if you were still living in Berkeley you'll be able to solve this problem really quickly! Just hang around Sproul plaza on a Friday afternoon!
