Update

I took a drumming music therapy class last week. Now I hear rhythms everywhere I go. As I wait in an elevator, my fingers tap out the beats of someone's cough and another person's jiggling keys. I LOVE IT! To get credit for this course, I need to participate in a drum circle. I am not sure what this will be like but I am excited to try it out. More to come soon!

Currently I am disappointed in our state of affairs. I read a quote recently that resonated with me: "You cannot bring democracy to a country by attacking it!" - Akbar Ganji

How do I keep from feeling helpless sometimes? How can we create change? Isn't this nation created by the people and for the people?

Today, I, for my part, watched Dave Chappelle's movie "Block Party." This made me feel somewhat better. Perhaps change in small ways is affective and all is not lost as long as people are willing to learn. If Dave Chappelle can get four old white women from Ohio to take a long bus ride to see rap stars of whom they've never heard, anything is possible. I guess that's why I want to be a counselor- to feel that I am making a difference in a small way. My journey to make a difference will just not have as good of a sound track as Dave's ;)

Cool Tidings!

On a lighter note - before I lay my head to rest, I feel it necessary to send a shout-out to a certain Laurie Beth Tomczyk, who gave me her airconditioner upon leaving our apartment. I may be polluting the world and racking up my roommate's electricity bill but gosh darn am I a happy and cool camper tonight!

Thank you again girl! I predict a good nights rest in this perfectly climate controlled environment!

Did It!

Today I ran two miles, biked a mile to go kayaking for an hour and then biked back home. Tomorrow no exercise! Finally , I get to rest and go to the beach with the girls. Woo Hoo!

I'm just psyched that I made the two miles. The best part is that running gave me no pain today! Perhaps this is just because I'm in too much pain from everything else! Next week I'll aim for 2.5 , maybe 3mi. . .gettin there!

In other news I saw "An Inconvenient Truth" today. Loved it! It totally made me proud that I have given up my car for a bike. Granted, it had blatant plugs for Apple Computers (A company in which Gore is heavily invested) and it only showed one perspective (Al Gore's perspective) of the global warming crises, but it was a strong argument nonetheless. I highly recommend this movie and encourage you to check out the website.
